Your goal in Lode Runner is to collect all the gold pieces on each level while avoiding the relentless enemy guards. You control your character from a side-view perspective, running and climbing ladders across a grid-based stage. Your primary tool is the ability to dig holes directly to your left or right, which can temporarily trap enemies. These holes will refill after a short time, so timing is crucial. A key strategy is to lure guards over a spot you plan to dig, trapping them so you can safely collect gold that was previously out of reach.
