The core objective is to defeat your opponent in one-on-one combat by depleting their life bar before time runs out. Moment-to-moment play involves moving your character around the 2D plane, using a combination of normal attacks, special moves, and super moves. A useful beginner strategy is to focus on mastering a few basic special moves and learning to block effectively. The challenge rhythm is fast-paced, with rounds often decided by quick punishes and combo opportunities. In the early moments of a match, focus on gauging your opponent's patterns and controlling space. During the middle of the fight, look for openings to land your character's stronger attacks or a simple combo. In tense moments when life bars are low, careful defense and landing a single powerful super move can secure victory. The game also features a two-plane system, allowing you to sidestep between the foreground and background to evade attacks.
